An existing client asked FPE Architects to take over an in-progress project at 1400 Broadway. Demolition and some construction had already taken place, and the original floor and ceiling were long gone. FPE made strategic use of remaining architectural elements, incorporating them into a new interpretation of the original Art Deco lobby which was designed by Ely Jacques Kahn in 1931. The signature addition is a paneled ceiling detailed in metal-cast fiberglass, which sub-divides the long lobby into a series of bays. The project includes new marble wall-cladding, concierge desks, marble flooring at the entrance, and a new Art Deco awning and storefront.
