2 Park Avenue is considered one of the masterpieces of architect Ely Jacques Kahn. Constructed in 1926, the structure is detailed in a mature, Art Deco style, and features innovative use of polychrome terra cotta. The exterior has been designated a landmark by the New York Landmarks Preservation Commission. Upon acquisition of the building, the clients retained FPE to reverse a series of unsympathetic renovations that had been carried out by the previous owners. Directed by the original lobby detailing, FPE designed a series of interventions that complement Kahn’s design intent.
