Originally constructed in 1927 for Philip and Helen Astor, this building now houses the New York Junior League, one of New York City’s largest volunteer organizations. To address the extensive needs of this organization, FPE designed a flexible layout, able to accommodate offices, small and large conference facilities (ranging in occupancy from 10 to 120), and special event space, to be used for fundraising and other gatherings. Original architectural detailing uncovered during the demolition phase, including period mouldings and coffered ceilings, was restored in accordance with Mott Schmidt’s 1927 design.
